Dramatic Fanatics and The Ugarte Studio join forces once again to offer a Summer 2013 Musical Theater Camp at Providence United Methodist Church.  Leading the camp will be Certified Drama Instructor Amy Beaucham and Juilliard trained Maria Pia Ugarte.

Ms. Beaucham is the Founder and Director of Dramatic Fanatics and teaches Enrichment at Kedron Elementary, with 30 years of experience as an educator.  She holds an Undergraduate Degree in Speech and Drama and a Master’s in Education and has performed throughout Georgia, as an actress, singer and storyteller. She is a former Teacher of the Year for Treutlen County.

Ms. Ugarte is the Founder and Artistic Director of Voices and The Ugarte Studio.  She trained at The Juilliard School and has twenty years experience as a vocal coach.  Her students are seen consistently performing in leading roles in the area and winning international, national and local competitions in multiple styles from pop, jazz, musical theater, contemporary to classical art songs and opera.   The last two summers they joined New York Grand Opera in Central Park in their fully staged performance of Pucinni's "La Boheme" and "Tosca," both performances highly praised by The New York Times.  Ms. Ugarte has performed in South America and the United States and her relationship with NYGO spans over 20 years.

Students that participate will receive the following instruction:

VOICE 101: Introduction will be provided in the fundamentals of singing while learning a song.  This includes the basics of breath management, posture, vocal and muscle coordination, ear training and pitch recognition.

DRAMA 101:  Students will be introduced to the basics of acting and dramatic interpretation through games and activities that foster imagination and creativity. These processes are geared towards encouraging students to tap into their artistic self, to develop understanding of the rules of the stage, and to encourage confidence with auditioning, improvisation and performing. Students will be provided with an opportunity to learn and deliver a chosen monologue from a variety of sources.

MOVEMENT 101:  Warm-up, stretching, center floor and across floor exercises focused on the development of stage presence, with emphasis on combinations for songs to be performed, applying the basics of Alexander Technique.

PERFORMANCE 101:  Skills introduced in Voice 101, Drama 101, and Movement 101 will be combined and further applied in the interpretation of material to be performed on the last day of the camp.

A performance of songs and monologues will take place on the last day of the camp, with a meet and greet afterwards.
